Silent protest on ETSY

protesty avatar

Oh I love me a good protest!

I join today in closing my Etsy shop in protest of them allowing " factories" to sell on their site. Etsy is meant for people like me who make items one at a time, by hand. I have often wondered, how can this young lady be making these bracelets for so cheap... In her smoke free, pet free home... Well because... She's probably not working from "home" but" workin for the man”

let's keep it real.... Keep Etsy HANDMADE... Thank you and see you tommorrow.  Read more if
you want to join in....  power to the people!

Here Here, Cynthia ....you are SO right. I have a lots of friends who make jewellery, pottery, stained glass etc. etc and, many craft fairs, as well as Etsy, have a lot of 'brought in' stuff. It's just not right !
....and, you were the only one who thought that the sparrows were having a bit of hanky panky on my post !!!! Just saying !! haha. XXXX

You are so right, my dear....It just seems as if everything gets corrupted these days...What started out as one wonderful thing is now something else entirely....!
I Applaud You!

Hello Cynthia:
We have no real clue about Etsy but entirely agree that commercially produced items do not seem within the spirit of it at all. It is so disappointing that what start off as really good ideas to support individuals with small enterprises just get hijacked and abused. This spoils it for everyone!

yes I agree, this destroys the whole ethos of Etsy.

Applause applause..SO many will be afraid to follow your path because they fear the lack of monetary gain, not realizing the protest and the fallout of masses would surely create more monetary gain...just like my rebellion of facebook and pinterest after studying the facts...one lone soul makes a tiny ripple, thousands of souls form a tsunami.

I have had an empty shop there for years only to maintain my name. I have heard of the hubbbub from other etsy sellers though. Now I will check it out.

You rock!

Oh, this is so, so
SAD!! I hope they
will change their
policies....They are
big enough that they
certainly do not need
to accept factory made!
Thanks for bringing
this to our attention,
Cynthia.

Isn't there enough competition for crafters on Etsy already without adding in mass-produced stuff? Fight the good fight!

Hi Cynthia...I guess I'm better late than never. Hadn't heard the big Etsy news!!! I'm shocked! I saw that you're back in Etsy business...did they make any changes? But happy to see you are keeping up with your fabulous new designs. Been a little out of the blogging world as I got sucked into Pinterest, not to mention being a bit under the weather... NOT very productive! You've given me inspiration though!! : )
